Student Research Projects / Bachelor Theses / Master Theses

Depleting fossil resources force us to think about alternative feedstocks not only in energy supply. Also numerous every day products such as plastics, paints, detergents and cleaning products and much more needs to be produced from renewable raw materials in a future bio-based economy.

Our research focuses on the utilization of renewable raw materials for the production of various chemical products. For this we use in particular biotechnological and chemical-catalytic conversion processes. Furthermore, we develop methods for the production of bio-based polymers and materials.

In these areas we offer permanently positions for student assistants and opportunities to conduct internships, student research projects as well as bachelor and master theses:

Bachelor or master theses / Internships / Seminar theses

We offer interested students the opportunity to carry out bachelor and master theses as well as internships and literature researches. Our approach to work is interdisciplinary and highly application-oriented. Depending on the particular interests you can work in the fields of biomass digestion / saccharification, chemical and biotechnological conversion of renewable raw materials or the production of bio-based materials.

Focus of the work for students of biotechnology, bioengineering or related subjects are:

  • Cultivation with free and immobilized cells in microtiter plates, shaking flasks and bioreactors
  • Process and media optimization
  • Screening of novel microorganisms
  • Analytical methods to evaluate the cultivation process
  • Enzymatic digestion of agricultural residues

Focus of the work for students of chemistry, food chemistry, chemical engineering or related subjects are:

  • Preparation, characterization and application of heterogeneous catalysts
  • Preparation and characterization of bio-based polymers and materials
  • Optimization of process parameters
  • Down-stream processing
  • Chemical pulping of agricultural residues
