The Thünen Institute mourns the loss of its long-standing former Advisory Board member Dr. Adi Kellermann, who died suddenly and unexpectedly on Feb 2nd, 2025.
Born in 1953, Kellermann held a PhD in fisheries biology, began his career in polar research and was one of the world’s leading experts on the juvenile stages of Antarctic fish while working at the Alfred Wegener Institute in Bremerhaven. Further stations on his career path were Hawaii and the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park Authority. From 2004 to 2015, he was Head of Science at the Secretariat of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) in Copenhagen. On the Advisory Board of the Thünen Institute, he contributed to the further development of the institute for two full terms of office from 2009 to 2019 before retiring. Kellermann remained connected to marine research as a consultant in various projects, but was also highly involved in voluntary work at his home in Friedrichstadt on the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein. We will honor his memory.
