MSC Germany celebrates 20 years since its foundation - congratulations!

The Marine Stewardship Council, the world's leading sustainability standard for wild-caught fish, celebrates it' s 20th anniversary. The Berlin office has invited to a party with panel discussion in the "Spreespeicher" in Berlin.

The keynote speeches were given by the Managing Director of the MSC, Rupert Howes, and the Schleswig-Holstein Minister of the Environment Robert Habeck. In the subsequent panel discussion, representatives of fisheries, trade, environmental organizations and science discussed what has happened in these 20 years, if ecolabelling works (yes!), and what challenges await the MSC in the coming years. The anniversary is accompanied by a publicity campaign - one of the posters shows the Thünen fish researcher Dr Kristina Barz (see picture).

For many years, the Thünen Institute has been intensively involved in the further development of the MSC standard. Dr Christopher Zimmermann, head of the Institute of Baltic Sea Fisheries, was chair of the technical advisory board of the MSC from 2011-2017, and a member of the supervisory board.

Congratulations, MSC!
