Kai is a senior expert of soil science and forest hydrology. His work combines aspects of soil physics/hydrology and soil-plant-atmosphere interactions. Over the last six years, Kai served as the head of the Soil and Land-use Management unit at the Dresden based Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources (UNU-Flores), which is part of the United Nations University network. Kai’s research focuses on a better understanding of how environmental resources interact under the conditions of global change. The outcome of his research is used to support key stakeholders in implementing their sustainability ambitions. Kai is very experienced in the application, establishment, and coordination of research programmes.
