After four years of project initiation, the FETE consortium partners met for the first time in person to establish a common understanding of project objectives, work plans, responsibilities, management structures and administrative workflows.
The FETE kick-off workshop took place at the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in Morogoro (Tanzania) and was organised by the host in collaboration with the Thünen Institute for Market Analysis. In addition to SUA and the Thünen Institute, three other research institutions are among the project partners. These are the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR-STEPRI), the University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) and the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN).
A total of 18 scientists and 4 administrators from Ghana, Malaysia, South Africa, Tanzania and Germany participated in the FETE kick-off. The joint project is characterised by a multicultural and interdisciplinary team and will, over the next three years, analyse the food environments in selected countries in sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia and develop solutions to make it healthier and more sustainable. To this end, different methodological approaches are used to assess the personal and external food environment as well as the policy framework. Together with local stakeholders, evidence-based policy recommendations will be developed.
We would like to thank the hosts, Prof Joyce Kinabo and Dr Akwilina Mwanri from the Sokoine University of Agriculture and the entire FETE team for the successful kick-off.
