Possible Impact of TTIP on Agricultural Production in Europe

The free trade agreement between the EU and the USA (TTIP) is highly controversial. What are the consequences for European farmers, if tariffs will be reduced and production standards would be adapted?

Regional trade agreements and their consequences are all the rage. For some, the removal of trade barriers such as import tariffs or non-tariff trade barriers will result in an improved market access and higher revenue for the agri-food sectors. Others, however, see with an opening of the domestic markets a sold-off to social and health standards. The Thünen Institute of Market Analysis has analyzed the possible effects of TTIP and its potential impact on German and European agricultural markets. The following presentation is based on a talk at this year's EUROTIER given on November, 12:2014, about the question of the impact TTIP for livestock production in the EU.

The presentation is available under the following web-address: TTIP: Implications for European Farmers – Pig, Poultry and Dairy(PDF, 5,2MB)

Further details about the potential impact of a Free Trade Agreement between the EU and the US are described in the Thünen-Working Paper 17(PDF, 363KB, only in German)
