100% organic rations are target in organic poultry keeping. Essentiell amino acids are limitating and challenge the feeding of high performance poultry. Alternative feed components is necessary.

Background and Objective

Alternative feedstuff for 100% organic diets in organic poultry farming has to be developed.

Approach

  • Heated rape cake has been added up to 18% in feed rations to three different hybrid lines (LSL, Tetra, Lohmann Silver).
  • Faba beans, sweet lupina and other local legumes have been added to the feed.

Results

  • Feeding rations with 100% organic components have been proven.
  • High Vicin and Convicin content have resulted in rejection of feed intake.
  • No improved feed component could be developed.
  • The egg quality has been improved.
  • there were different performance between the hybrids.
