Securing skilled workers is a challenge in rural regions. This is particularly true for regions with a shrinking labour force due to demographic change. Aspects on which we conduct research in the field of labour and income are therefore regional labour market conditions, reasons for regional differences and the spatial mobility of workers. Furthermore, we investigate the regional match between the qualifications of the labor force and the labor needs of companies. This also provides information on the possibilities for companies and the state to counteract shortages of skilled workers in rural areas, e.g., through education and training.
