The current issue of "Facts & Figures" highlights the economic development of rural areas

While the quarter-annual issues of the "Figures & Facts" series spotlight selected topics, the December edition focuses on the overarching question of how rural areas in Germany are developing economically.

Current analyses show that the economy in rural areas has tended to perform slightly better than that of urban areas since the COVID-19 pandemic. Although economic growth was low overall, rural areas recorded twice as much growth on average as urban areas between 2019 and 2022. However, this does not apply to all rural regions.

Our new edition of Facts & Figures includes current analyses of the indicators gross value added, labour productivity, gross wages and salaries, population, municipal tax revenue, unemployment rate, skilled workers and innovation performance.
