WI Institute of Rural Economics

News

A warm welcome, Madam President

On her third day in office, the newly appointed President of the Thünen Institute, Prof. Birgit Kleinschmit, found time for her first visit to the Institute of Rural Economics. At the end of the day together, it was clear that everyone was looking forward to working together in the future!

Prof. Kleinschmit used the start of her inaugural visit to introduce her professional career and herself as a private person, as well as to present initial strategic considerations for her presidency. She considers strong publication-oriented preliminary research the most important component of successful policy advice. The subsequent discussion was very lively and informed and showed the great interest of the plenum in the President's thought-provoking ideas and views.
After the institute directors had discussed the institute's basic orientation and mission statement with Prof. Kleinschmit for the rest of the morning, individual working groups were given the opportunity to introduce the President to in-depth insights into individual research projects in the afternoon. Over the day, many new, exciting ideas for our research and the policy advice based on it emerged and we look forward to implementing these in the future in close cooperation with the President.
