On October 25, 2023, Petrik Runst presented current research on innovation in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) at the Munich and Upper Bavarian Chamber of Crafts. When SMEs are located in rural and peripheral regions and do not have research and development departments, one may ask where do they receive innovation impulses from. The presentation emphasized the particular importance of communicative engagement, strong social networks, and an interaction-based learning model. A series of policy implications, in particular with regard to economically lagging regions, was subsequently discussed.

The Volkswirte-Forum is organized by the ifh Göttingen. It is an annual conference where economists and representatives of German crafts chambers discuss current developments in economic policy.
