Rural areas offer both opportunities and potentials as well as challenges for artists and cultural entrepreneurs. It is true that cultural entrepreneurs are said to have a special preference for urban centers, and in fact their share in rural areas is on average lower than in urban areas. However, rural areas can offer opportunities for them both through lower rents and available space for studios, workrooms, etc., as well as through creative open space. However, as the literature shows, it is more challenging in rural areas for cultural entrepreneurs to build networks and establish access to important markets and funding sources.
How cultural entrepreneurs address these contextual conditions in their artistic-entrepreneurial practices and which impulses they can give for regional development will be investigated through regional comparative case studies.
KULT_Ressource is one of the 22 selected projects implemented under the funding measure "Factor K – Forschung zum Faktor Kultur in ländlichen Räumen" (Factor K- Research on the Factor Culture in Rural Areas)" within the framework of the "Bundesprogramm Ländliche Entwicklung und regionale Wertschöpfung” (Federal Program for Rural Development and Regional Value Creation”) (BULE+).
