Founded in 1999, the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) is the world's oldest and, with around 50 participating countries, also the largest research consortium for empirical start-up research. The German GEM team was already involved back then, and there was an important appointment to make during the publication of the current GEM country report last Friday in Berlin. Professor Rolf Sternberg (Leibniz University Hannover), who has been the sole team leader without interruption since 1999, is stepping down from the front line after 25 successful years and handing over the baton to the new dual leadership consisting of Christian Hundt (Thünen Institute of Rural Economics) and Florian Täube (RKW Competence Center). The new research coordinator on the Thünen side will be Christian Bergholz. The adjacent photo clarifies that the handover of the baton was not solely symbolic.
To ensure that the new leadership also leaves his own research mark despite the large footsteps of their predecessor, the GEM will also be established as its own research project at the Thünen Institute. More information can be found here: Global Entrepreneurship Monitor
