At the annual conference of the Gesellschaft für Informatik in der Land-, Forst- und Ernährungswirtschaft e.V. (GIL), Alexander Aue won the associated hackathon together with Linus Schmidt and Nico Heider (research assistant at Leipzig University). The topic: "How can we make agriculture more sustainable using AI and digital technologies?" was presented by Franziska Deißing from the Sächsisches Landesamt für Umwelt, Landwirtschaft und Geologie.

The winning team solved the challenge "Monitoring cattle on pasture - a long way or a simple solution?" within 24 hours. They presented a concept for a camera pole that forms a network with other poles and can thus monitor the feeding, health and activity of livestock, detect outbreaks and wild animals and control the electrics of the pasture fence without an internet connection, sensors and batteries on the livestock.

In their demonstration, they showed that they can use artificial intelligence to recognise cattle in a pasture and trigger an alarm if the cattle cross the pasture fence. A recording of the pitch, which Alexander recorded afterwards, can be viewed here (in German language): https://vimeo.com/921038514/18a7be286e
