The Leibniz Research Network “Spatial Knowledge for Society and Environment – Leibniz R” analyses social, ecological and economic processes and their interactions in their spatial contexts. It points out space-related options for action and contributes to anchoring spatial knowledge more broadly in society and politics and making it more usable.

"With the Thünen Institute, our network is expanding to include a second institution outside the Leibniz Association. The expertise of our colleagues in Braunschweig in research and policy advice on rural areas will enrich our network," says Prof. Dr.-Ing. Marc Wolfram, spokesperson for Leibniz R and Director of the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IÖR).

"We are pleased to now be part of Leibniz R and to further deepen our, in some cases, long-standing cooperative relationships with the member institutions of the network," says Prof. Dr. Peter Weingarten. He is the contact person for the Thünen Institute at Leibniz R and Head of the Thünen Institute of Rural Studies.
