The International Working Group on Surveys on Ichthyoplankton in the North Sea and adjacent waters (WGSINS) covers a wide range of aspects on plankton surveys of early life stages of fishes. These include the international planning and execution of surveys used for assessment and management purposes, quality assurance on species identification, standardization of sampling and processing, as well as methods used for abundance index calculation and data archiving of different type of plankton surveys.
The working group will also review and update existing survey manuals when and where necessary. The overall goal is to deliver as accurate survey results as possible on the dynamics of spawning stock biomass or recruitment for several fish stocks.
