The Thünen Institute of Wood Research and the Institute of Wood Science at the University of Hamburg were represented by five scientists at the 17th European Workshop on Lignocellulosics and Pulp in Turku. The topics of the presentation and poster contributions included their work on the determination of organic additives in paper and better identification of wood species using anatomy and chemotaxonomy. In addition, results on the nitrogen enrichment of lignin, bio-based adhesives and the supercritical extraction of tall oil were presented. At the most important European wood chemistry congress, exciting topics were once again presented and interesting discussions were held with international scientists on the sustainable use of biogenic resources.
