The Thünen Institute of Wood Research was represented by five scientists from three research units at the IUFRO World Congress, held in Stockholm from June 23 to 29. The diverse topics of their presentations and posters included new method developments in automated wood identification of fiber materials, as well as the use of the apps macroHOLZdata and CITESwoodID for identifying and describing internationally traded timber. Additionally, they presented current results on assessing greenhouse gas substitution effects in the building sector and highlighted the potentials of efficient utilization of reclaimed wood in the circular bioeconomy. With approximately 4,300 participants from over 220 countries, the World Congress provided a special forum for international and interdisciplinary knowledge exchange and networking opportunities.
