LIGNA 2023, the world's most important trade fair for wood processing, took place in Hanover from 15 to 19 May 2023. The Thünen-Institut was represented at LIGNA 2023 with a booth which was organised by the Institute of Wood Research in cooperation with the Institute of Forestry of the Thünen Institute and the Institute for Wood Sciences at the University of Hamburg.
At LIGNA 2023, current research results and ongoing projects on the subject of wood and its utilization were presented. For example, results of the Raw Material Monitoring Wood (RMH) were presented in the form of a digital app. TheThünen Institute of Forestry has been carrying out the RMH as a new permanent as a new permanent task. In the process, the material flows of the first use stage as well as the energetic use in the wood raw material market. The Thünen Institute for Wood Science presented two apps (macroHOLZdata and CITESwoodID) for determining internationally traded woods, which are available in the popular app stores. Based on comprehensive databases, the apps offer text- and image-supported identification keys for the identification of commercially available woods.
Furthermore, current research projects on the topics of wood and climate, emissions from wood and emissions from wood and wood-based materials, climate-neutral fumigation processes 3D chip measurement, material utilisation of wood and wood components as well as facts and figures from the global timber trade market.
