Wood products can emit numerous volatile organic compounds (VOC). In the scientific literature, data on this are prepared quite differently and cannot always be compared with each other. In a review paper, researchers at the Thünen Institute for Wood Research have put the available information into a common context and published it (Thünen Report 86). The work focuses on the essential VOC from the group of terpenes, aldehydes and organic acids. It looks at how and why the emission behaviour differs between different woods and wood-based materials made from them. This information is a good basis for assessing the emission behaviour of wood products.
