The aim of the COST Action with the acronym EU-PoTaRCh- is to create a network for the past, present and future utilisation of important non-timber forestry raw materials and products in Europe and beyond. The COST Action focuses on forest by-products, mainly potash, tar, resin and charcoal (PoTaRCh) as representatives of traditional forest utilisation, but the COST Action also touches on other forest by-products (tannins, pitches etc.). The aim is to identify and evaluate changes in production and their social and environmental impact on sustainable development. The action is intended to contribute to finding ways of sustainable forest utilisation and transferring knowledge to better methods and products in the bioeconomy. The conference was organised with the participation of the Thünen Institute of Wood Research, with a contribution on methods of species identification of wood and so-called NFTPs (Non-Timber Forest Products)
