The task of the Thünen Institute for Wood Research in the KLIMAtiv project is to test the suitability of more climate-friendly gases instead of sulphuryldifluoride (SF) and alternative treatment methods for the phytosanitary treatment of export roundwood and to compare them, particularly with regard to their life cycle assessments. Specifically, fumigation with nitrogen and carbon dioxide, water storage, heat/steam treatment and combinations of gas and heat treatment are to be investigated and optimised. Recommendations for practice and politics are to be made on the basis of the study results. The project partner is the Julius Kühn Institute
