Geodata
Together with the compound structure Thünen Geoinformation one main focus of the Service Unit's work is the acquisition, transformation, analysis, and visualisation of geospatial data. We operate the Thünen Atlas to disseminate research results of the Thünen Institute in the form of interactive maps. We assist scientists in preparing their georeferenced data for presentation on Thünen Atlas and provide support for the creation and visualisation of maps and the associated meta-data.
We are also actively involved in the further development of the open-source geoinformation system GeoNode, on which the Thünen Atlas is based. We put the collected user experiences and requirements of the Thünen scientists on the roadmap for the development of GeoNode. This way, we contribute to establishing a leading open-source technology in the scientific landscape.
The map below is an example embedded from Thünene Atlas and shows the Soil-pH map of Germany (Marc Scherstjanoi, Thünen Institute of Forest Ecosystems).
