Cruise area:  Baltic Sea (Mecklenburg Bay, Arkona Sea)

Purpose:  Baltic International Trawl Survey

The 842nd voyage of the fisheries research vessel Solea is part of the Baltic International Trawl Survey (BITS) coordinated by the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES), in which eight coastal states are participating. The aim of the trip is to record demersal fish species in the southern part of the Belt Sea and the Arkona Sea during the above-mentioned period, using standard hauls and randomly selected stations.

Specifically, the following tasks are to be carried out during the cruise:

1. conducting a survey to determine indices for the quantitative calculation of cod and flatfish stocks, including hydrographic investigations

2. stock investigations of cod and all flatfish species

3. qualitative and quantitative investigations of bycatch

4. additional sampling as part of national and international enquiries

5. catching live fish off Warnemünde
