- Annual assessment of pelagic fish stocks (herring, mackerel, horse mackerel, blue whiting and sprat) in the North Sea and North Atlantic for the determination of sustainable catches
- Biological investigations on biodiversity, species protection and the rational use of living marine resources
- Scientific assessment of potential impacts of human activities such as exploration of oil and gas, sand and gravel extraction and offshore wind farms in the German EEZ in the North Sea
- Investigations on fish assemblages in small defined areas in the North Sea to assess the anthropogenic influence on marine ecosystems (e.g. offshore windfarms)
- Recruitment research: Investigation of fish eggs and larvae in terms of species composition and size
- MSFD - Implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework directive – Definition and validation of indicators and initial assessment
