Funding of Thünen fisheries research by the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) of the EU

Fisheries research at the Thünen Institute in Bremerhaven and Rostock is funded by the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) of the European Union (EU Regulation 2021/1139).

The Data Collection Framework (DCF), co-funded by the EU, allows Member States to collect fisheries data relevant for the sustainable management of fish stocks.

MigFish

Wandernde Fischarten sind durch anthropogene Einflüsse in Meeres-, Küsten- und Binnengewässern besonders gefährdet. Viele dieser Arten zeigen abnehmende Populationstrends, sind gemäß FFH-Richtlinie geschützt und/oder gelten gemäß Roter Liste als gefährdet und besonders schützenswert. Bemühungen, die Arten in früheren Habitaten wieder anzusiedeln oder Restbestände wieder aufzubauen, waren bisher nicht in jedem Fall erfolgreich.

Sampling and assessment of benthic species and seabed in the German EEZ (MOBEEZ)

The project will supplement the ongoing monitoring in the German Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the North Sea, as required by Section 6 of the Federal Nature Conservation Act (BNatSchG), with a temporally and spatially extended sampling and analysis of benthic communities in the German EEZ of the southern North Sea, incorporating alternative, minimally invasive methods.
