In a pre-test for the upcoming resampling of the German Agricultural Soil Inventory (BZE-LW), small scale variability of soil organic carbon stocks was assessed at cropland and grassland soils. The central question was, if a minimum shift of the initial profile during resampling would render the random resampling error negligible. This was not the case, since even with a shift of 40 cm, an average random deviation of 8 was observed. A higher sample support (three profiles) bisected this error. The BZE-LW will work with four small profile pits in the future.
