In addition to the results at an international level, the conference provided insights into livestock production in Finland. For example, chicken production is salmonella-free because, among other things, the so-called splitting-system is not used. With this splitting system, as is common in Germany for example, the stable is opened and some of the animals are removed early to utilise the maximum permissible stocking density with the remaining animals in order to maximise production per place. In pig production, tail docking is not done, but piglets are castrated without anaesthesia. Beef production is highly subsidised and produces excellent qualities based on dairy breeds. The use of peat as bedding in animal husbandry has many advantages, but should be viewed critically from an environmental perspective.
It is foreseen to continue the successful concept in a comparable format in the following annual conferences in Austria, South Africa and probably Spain.
