A delegation of four students from Handong University, Republic South-Korea, visited the Thünen Institute of International Forestry and Forest Economics on 15th of August 2016. Their two week journey to Europe was funded by the South-Korean support programme “LG Global Challenger”.
The students, although enrolled in different programmes, formed a working group called “ECONOMIC “ to search for innovative ideas that can foster South-Korean economy and environment. Purpose of their visit to European was to gain knowledge and different aspects about tall wood building constructions.
While visiting Thünen Institute of International Forestry and Forest Economics their main interest was to gain insight into the German forestry. Particularly history, judicial and administrative organization, forest management planning and timber trade and market have been discussed.
Since the 1970/80 the forest area in South-Korea approximately doubled and questions in terms of the mentioned aspects increase. One of the main problems is the marketing and the use of small dimensioned wood.
