Degraded and partially restored landscapes in case study landscape Penablanca, Philippines

Kick-off project “Using Citizen Science approaches and Spatial Decision Support Systems to foster nature-based solutions to sustain and expand the remaining forest landscapes of the Philippines”

The remaining Philippine forests are threatened by deforestation, forest degradation and climate change. They are also important for the wellbeing of the local population as well as being a global biodiversity hotspot. The project CITIZEN-SDSS aims to foster nature-based solutions by including local stakeholder aspirations into land use planning and evaluating it with spatial decision support systems to enable a more sustainable forest management in the future.
It is funded by Velux Stiftung for the period of 09.2023 to 08.2027.
Research partners are Cecilia Mangabat - Isabela State University, Renz Come - Visayas State University, and Forest Foundation Philippines.
