Dr. Kempe studied mechanical engineering and received his PhD in biology from the Technical University of Dresden. In interdisciplinary research projects on biomimetics, he focused on the anatomical, morphological and biomechanical investigation of plants without true wood, analyzed biologically inspired design principles for lightweight constructions and explored the use of fiber plants as renewable raw materials for technical fiber composite materials. Furthermore, he participated in a project to establish a botanical garden for a university in northern Angola and supported forest inventory work.
After further qualification as a GIS specialist, Dr. Kempe worked at Beak Consultants GmbH in Freiberg from 2019 to 2022 in the field of remote sensing and geoinformatics. Here, the focus was on satellite- and drone-based hyperspectral analyses for mineral detection, as well as the monitoring of post-mining landscapes.
