Dr. Sarah Wolff examines the effectiveness and efficiency of forest certification concerning sustainable forest management and forest conservation. Her research focuses on the effectiveness of forest certification in reducing forest conversion and forest degradation. She will also investigate the efficiency of forest certification systems for enterprises (i.e., costs and benefits of forest certification) and the efficiency in the actual implementation of certification criteria.
The effectiveness and efficiency of forest certification will also be compared to other instruments for sustainable forest management (e.g., regulations, protected areas) and possible synergies examined. To answer the research questions, Dr. Wolff will conduct a systematic review and empirical fieldwork.
Dr. Wolff holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Geography from the “Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam”, The Netherlands. For her research, she developed conceptual and methodological approaches for mapping and modeling the demand for ecosystem services and its influence on land-use change across space and time.
