External evaluation

Seven years after we started our activities on timber market modelling at the Thünen Institute of International Forestry and Forest Economics, the working group has undergone a three-day evaluation by external experts.

The group of evaluators consisted of the three internationally acknowledged experts (i) Dr Maarit Kallio, Professor at the Norwegian University of Life Science in Aas, (ii) Dr Peter Schwarzbauer, Professor (retired) at the University of Natural Resources and Life Science (BOKU) in Vienna/Austria and (iii) Jeffrey P. Prestemon, PhD, project leader at USDA Forest Service in North Carolina/USA.

The evaluation was aimed at assessing the choice and application of methods, the scientific innovation, and the scientific and societal-political relevance of both, the already performed and the only recently stared projects. Moreover, the evaluation opened the opportunity to identify new fields of research and to highlight potential extensions of concluded research work.

Having faced up to the evaluation for the institute: the modellers team with Franziska Schier, Julia Tandetzki, Johanna Schliemann, Christian Morland und Tomke Honkomp as well as the team leader Dr Holger Weimar and the head of institute Prof Dr Matthias Dieter.
