He holds a MSc. in Natural Resource Management, Agricultural Sciences and Food Security in the Tropics and Subtropics, and a Doctoral Degree from the University of Hohenheim, Germany. His PhD focused on assessing the impact of land use change on ecosystem functions in data-limited watersheds of Mainland Southeast Asia, which he conducted in collaboration with the Institute of Plant Production in the Tropics and Subtropics, University of Hohenheim.
Dr. Melvin Lippe worked for inter- and transdisciplinary research projects in South India (BioDIVA), North-Thailand and Northwest Vietnam (The Uplands Programme), and as PostDoc at the Department of Biobased Products and Energy Crops, University of Hohenheim. He holds several years of teaching experience at BSc. and MSc. level, both in English and German language.
His field of activities in the section Forestry Worldwide will focus on the coordination of the LaForeT country component Philippines, as well was working packages 1 ‘multi-temporal analysis of deforestation/reforestation patterns’ and working package 6 ‘landscape modelling’.
His principal research interest lies in the assessment of drivers and patterns of land cover/land use change (LULUC) using GIS- and Remote Sensing tools, landscape ecology and human geography. He is further interested in developing new methodological avenues for regionalized spatially-explicit life cycle assessment approach to examine bio-based and deforestation-free value chains.
