Having completed her studies in Forestry and a PhD in soil science at Dresden University of Technology, Susanne Iost was employed at Thünen Institute for the first time. She contributed to the assessment and monitoring of air pollution effects on forests (ICP Forests) at Thünen Institute for Worldforestry. Posts at University Hamburg in resource monitoring and at a company that manages short rotation coppices followed.
In 2016 Susanne Iost returned to Thünen Institute as part of the Thünen-wide bioeconomy monitoring. There, she helped laying the foundation for quantification and sustainability assessment of the bioeconomy.
This work comprised the comprehensive analysis of the forestry and timber cluster and provided the means for her future task of updating and adjustment of these clusterstatistics. Further working tasks are quantification of resource efficiency and the handling of inquiries and decrees form the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
