From 09/2019 to 02/2023 Sonja Holler worked in the Project LaForeT at the Thünen Institute of Forestry. Her scientific work conducted in the project also formed the basis for his PhD thesis at the University of Hamburg which had the title "Towards modeling of multifunctional landscapes for policy development and applied landscape planning in the Anthropocene – Development of the LPB-RAP model for long-term simulation and analysis of Restoration Areas Potentials and Potential Habitat Corridors in smallholder-dominated forest landscapes".
