Stephen Awuni pursued his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Zoology and Environmental science at the University of Ghana. He is currently enrolled in PhD studies on Global Change in Forestry at the Czech University of Life Sciences where he researches changes in forest ecosystem services, their drivers and impacts on society. At the Faculty, he teaches Erasmus students and is a departmental team member in the project “Advanced Research Supporting the Forestry and Wood-processing Sector's Adaptation to Global Change and the 4th Industrial Revolution (EVA)”.
Stephen has previous work experience as a research scientist with the Science and Technology Policy Research Institute (CSIR-STEPRI) in Ghana. At STEPRI, he participated in various projects, including the IMMPEX project at the Thünen Institutes of Farm Economics (BW) and Market Analysis (MA) and the UNEP/GIZ-funded green economy transition project in Ghana. He also worked as Ghana’s national contact point (NCP) on food security, sustainable agriculture, marine and maritime research, and the bioeconomy of EU’s Horizon 2020 framework programme.
His research interest includes diverse sustainability issues such as managing invasive aquatic weeds, climate change adaptation and mitigation, environmental disaster and risk reduction, green and bioeconomy sectors, and herbal medicine study.
