Thünen Institute of International Forestry and Forest Economics is represented in the expert panel of ITTO (International Tropical Timber Organization)

Since May 2017, Dr. Gerhard Dieterle, a German national, is appointed Executive Director of ITTO (International Tropical Timber Organization) who since then guides the destinies of the intergovernmental organization under UN-mandate from its head office in Yokohama, Japan.

Dr. Dieterle has long-time experiences as high-ranking officer with the World Bank, GIZ and BMEL.

Under his leadership, the ITTO- Expert Panel for the Evaluation of Project Proposals took up work after a one year’s break. Dr. J.-M. Schröder, senior scientist at the Thünen Institute of International Forestry and Forest Economics is appointed member of this expert panel.

In total, 46 project proposals where submitted to the expert panel meeting, of which 15 were recommended for funding to the forthcoming council meeting.

19 proposals were returned to the applicants for revision and twelve proposals were not approved.
