In its evaluation of the Thünen Institute (more information here: https://www.thuenen.de/de/newsroom/detail/bestnoten-vom-wissenschaftsrat-fuer-das-thuenen-institut-1), the Science Council also looked at its individual institutes.
The Science Council attests to the Institute of Rural Economics a highly dynamic development to date and emphasizes that the Institute is working on very convincing projects and is closing a significant gap in the understanding of the development of rural areas with its regional economic approach. Also, against the background of its short existence, the Institute's very good publication record is particularly noteworthy.
In its recommendations, the Science Council advocates that the Institute should now transform its good to very good individual projects into a coherent strategy with a clearly recognizable thematic focus with unique selling points. In addition, the distinction from the Institute of Rural Studies should be further sharpened.

We would like to thank the members of the Science Council and its working group for their constructive assessments and recommendations.
