Nine researchers from our institute present their research results on rural areas for discussion. The topics they cover range from studies on networks of digital pioneers and on the personal responsibility of citizens to automobility, local politics and sustainable development. They also organise entire thematic sessions in which scientists from other institutions and universities can present their research results.
- In the Sociology of Agriculture, Rural Areas and Food Section, Susann Bischof, Larissa Deppisch and Annett Steinführer are responsible for the session with the topic "State and Democracy in Crisis? Perspectives on the Political in Rural Areas."
- For the Sociological Network Research Section, Andreas Klärner is in charge of the session with the topic "Interactions of social networks and their contexts".
- For the Sociology of Environment and Sustainability section, Jens Jetzkowitz is chairing a session on "Trends in the Sociology of Environment and Sustainability".
The fact that our institute is clearly visible at this biennial congress, which takes place on a regular basis, has been made possible by the increase in personnel for social science research at the Thünen Institute in recent years.
This year's Sociology Congress takes place from September 26 to 30 at Bielefeld University. Its focus is on the topic of "polarized worlds" – a problem that can also be observed in rural areas.
