From the BESTLAND project two publications have recently appeared as part of the doctoral thesis of Dr. Björn Kemmann.
The 2-year field study in Saarland showed that nitrous oxide emissions were significantly lower for cup plant than for silage maize when grown on variable moisture sites, presumably because of the low Nmin levels due to the more continuous N uptake of permanent cup plant. A produced kilowatt-hour of bioelectricity from cup plant land produced about 74 g CO2-equivalent less nitrous oxide emissions from soil than a kilowatt-hour from corn land, but at a significantly lower electricity production per cropped area.
