Dr. Thomas Baldauf, changes to the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL)

From March 1 2015, Dr. Thomas Baldauf, changes to the Department European and International Forest Policy of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL).

After studying Forestry and Geographic Information Systems and Management, Dr. Baldauf has worked for the Thünen-Institute for World Forestry since 2007. In the course of research studies in Madagascar and Brazil, Thomas Baldauf further gained expertise, especially in the area of ​​REDD+. In 2013, he was awarded his doctorate with a thesis on Monitoring reduced emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+): capabilities of high-resolution active remote sensing data. In parallel, he accompanied the climate negotiations under the UNFCCC with a focus on REDD+ on behalf of BMEL since 2011.

After the restructuration and consolidation of the Thünen Institutes of Forest Economics and World Forestry, Dr. Thomas Baldauf has led the working field Supporting International Forest Policies in the newly created Institute for International Forestry and Forest Economics.

After his move to the Ministry of Agriculture he remains closely connected to the Institute as contact person.
