In June and July, Mr. Louis Tenbergen supported

our global forestry team as an intern and worked on the GEOS-EUDR project.

Mr. Tenbergen is currently completing his Master's degree in Forestry and Wood Sciences at the Technical University of Munich and in this context completed his six-week internship in the GEOS-EUDR project. During this time, he got to know the work of the global forestry department and carried out his own project under the supervision of Dr. Melvin Lippe. In this project, he investigated which maps (using Germany as an example) are suitable as a forest reference for the „Regulation on Deforestation-free products (EUDR)“ and how these differ from national forest map products, such as the Forest Soil Map 2018. He presented his findings to 20 interested scientists from our institute.

Louis Tenbergen studied Forest Science and Resource Management at the Technical University of Munich and developed an increasing interest in forest remote sensing and environmental monitoring.

During a two-month internship at the German Aerospace Center in the Land Surface Dynamics department, he gained his first practical experience in this field. He then wrote his bachelor's thesis in which he investigated the forest floor temperature in the Berchtesgaden National Park using Landsat LST data and LiDAR-based structural metrics.
