Employing a forest economic simulation model, the study assesses the opportunity costs associated with two possible implementation scenarios. The findings reveal a reduction in the silvicultural contribution margin by EUR 0.25 billion a⁻¹ (14%) and EUR 0.79 billion a⁻¹ (45%), respectively, upon implementation of the strategy. Emphasizing the necessity for reasoned decision-making in the execution of the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030, this study aims to lend support to policymakers and relevant stakeholders as they navigate these crucial choices.
