Nachhaltige Tropenwaldbewirtschaftung im Landschaftskontext: REDD+ und Restauration | LaForeT · R² (Projektverlängerung von 2020-2023)
Analyse von Politikansätzen für den Erhalt von Wäldern und Lebensgrundlagen in ausgewählten Ländern Afrikas, Asiens und Südamerikas
LaForeT untersucht den Einfluss von Politikinstrumenten sowie weiterer Treiber auf Be- und Entwaldung in den Tropen. Das Projekt wird vom Thünen-Institut, dem Bundesministerium für Ernährung und Landwirtschaft in Zusammenarbeit mit Partnern in Ecuador, den Philippinen und Zambia finanziert.
Obwohl die Entwaldungsraten in den Tropen nach wie vor alarmierend hoch sind, gibt es auch Beispiele für Wiederbewaldung sowohl über natürliche Regeneration als auch den Aufbau von Plantagen. Während die Effekte für den Klimawandel dabei meist unstrittig sind, bergen die Prozesse der Ent- aber auch der Wiederbewaldung häufig unbekannte Folgen für die Existenzgrundlage der lokalen Bevölkerung. In vielen Ländern ist die Entwicklung von Referenzszenarios der Entwaldung auf nationaler Ebene zur Implementierung des REDD+ Mechanismus schon weit vorangeschritten, aber man weiß noch wenig über die Effizienz globaler und nationaler Politikinstrumente.
